Everyone else on this list is a reliever as a fallback option. Jarvis received a lot of attention in February, when he threw a perfect game against Cornell. Burns has other things going for him, too: an average or better three-pitch mix, a sturdy frame, and nearly 200 innings' worth of high-quality work (2.86 ERA, 3.13 strikeout-to-walk ratio) against SEC competition. Fulton underwent Tommy John surgery last September, but he could still be picked by a team willing to buy him out of his Oklahoma commitment. He was limited to 14 starts over parts of three years, with 10 of those coming during his shaky freshman and injury-shortened (broken foot) sophomore seasons; hence his career 4.74 ERA. Winn is raw, and some prefer him as a pitcher, but he's a deep cut of a name to keep in mind. Martin, a top-of-the-order hitter and versatile defender, might be the most intriguing player in the class. 40. He's now a strong 192 pounds, and his stuff has taken off with a fastball touching 99 mph and a wipeout slider. The 6'7" left-hander's future is still in the starting rotation, and he looks like a potential future co-ace alongside Jesus Luzardo for years to come. With that in mind, let's rank some draftees. Loftin has past experience at other positions, and his protean nature could come in handy if his bat plays too light to assume a starting role. Despite walking nearly five batters per nine in 2019, he's walked just nine batters over his last 11 appearances, dating back to the Cape Cod League. In 13 games, he'd hit .340/.404/.760 with nearly as many homers (five) as strikeouts (seven). Of course, Hancock should be allowed to exist outside of the comparisons to Lacy. That disciplined approach should help him move quickly through the minors, even with a defensive shift coming from first base to third base. Wherever Soderstrom's future employer decides to play him, he ought to come off the board early. He has a high-spin fastball that ranges from 90-96 mph, a swing-and-miss curveball and some feel for a changeup. Howard's offensive value is tougher to peg. Puk ranked third in the minors with 184 strikeouts over 125 innings in 2017, then he missed the entire 2018 season and a good chunk of 2019 recovering from Tommy John surgery. His stuff is beyond questioning: his Trackman metrics are absurd, with his curveball possessing spin rates that would be elite among big-league pitchers; his command is more suspect, and his arm is often late to get up. Soderstrom has a strong arm, but he's a work-in-progress in other ways. He's an absolute toolshed; a two-way player with an Arkansas commitment who could become a notable player on either side of the ball. Franco looks like a true generational talent two years into his pro career. That represented a huge power spike after he hit just six home runs his first two seasons on campus, and he now has a prototypical right fielder profile. 24. In Martin's case, it could turn out to be a positive. With spring training in full swing and Yahoo Fantasy Baseball open for the 2021 MLB season, our analysts, some of the most accurate in the industry — … Assuming Rodgers graduates in 2021, Veen will be the top prospect in the Colorado system by a significant margin. Given his athleticism and pair of top-end pitches, he has a better chance than most at defying the stigma against short righties. Teams will likely give him the benefit of the doubt in that regard, given his hard work and marked improvement in other areas, with someone eyeing him as a mid-rotation starter. He could be a centerpiece of Miami's rebuilding efforts and part of the first wave of current top prospects to arrive in the majors. 12. After a disappointing 2018 season in which he hit .245/.313/.396 at Single-A, Ramos saw his prospect stock slide a bit, but he bounced back nicely with a huge 2019 campaign. The top of this class is loaded with good college arms, so Abel might slip outside of the top five. The best overall athlete in the 2017 draft, Adell showed a more refined skill set than expected in his pro debut after going No. The 6'3" right-hander has excellent command of an advanced three-pitch repertoire that includes a mid-90s fastball, hammer curveball and improving changeup, and he could be part of the MLB rotation before 2021 is over. Teams will have to decide if they trust his odd, albeit adaptable swing enough to project him as a Corey Dickerson type. Mlodzinski is still likely to be picked early on thanks to his athleticism; his performance in last year's Cape Cod League; and his arsenal, which could feature three above-average pitches: sinker, cutter, slider. Not bad for a player who slipped all the way to the ninth round of the 2018 draft. He could climb into the top 10 in short order once he makes his pro debut, and he could make his MLB debut shortly thereafter. RHP Logan Gilbert, Seattle Mariners (Age: 23). 36. Sabato's game may not feature another average or better tool outside of his bat, so he'll have to hit, hit, and then hit some more in order to justify his selection and punch his ticket to the Show. May offers quite the arsenal of pitches from his towering 6'6" frame, and MLB.com wrote the following about the hard-throwing prospect: "May has one of the best 1-2 combinations of pitches among prospects. He has a track record of hitting against good pitching (.343/.421/.590 in three years of playing SEC compeition), and this season he sliced into his strikeout rate, reducing it from 19.6 percent to 11.5 percent. Jud Fabian 9. Still just 21 years old, Sanchez has seemingly been on the top-prospect radar for years. Dingler has the arm strength and the athleticism to stick behind the plate. He has other innate qualities teams desire in their rotation arms, too, like the raw spin on his pitches and the ability to touch the mid-90s with his fastball. That said, he may eventually be best served turning his full attention to the mound. He has the defensive tools to stick at shortstop, but the presence of Fernando Tatis Jr. at the MLB level will eventually push him to second base or center field. The biggest knock on him is that he's only a right-handed first baseman, and those seldom make for satisfying early selections -- it's basically a sample of the ballad of Andrew Vaughn, the third pick in last year's draft. 39. He also offers an extremely high floor with closer upside out of the bullpen if he eventually needs to transition into that role. No pitcher ranked this highly on this list has less on file than Bitsko does. 4 overall pick had a 2.07 ERA with 224 strikeouts in 152 innings during his time at Texas A&M, and he immediately moves to the top of an impressive list of pitching prospects in the Kansas City system. Scouts have concerns that the curve won't be as effective against big-league hitters due to its low-to-mid-70s velocity and its out-of-hand visibility. The starting catcher job in Oakland seemingly belongs to Murphy now after he posted a 137 OPS+ with five doubles and four home runs in 60 plate appearances down the stretch last year. He's listed at 6-foot-4 with a frame that suggests he should be able to eat innings at full maturation. Torkelson has the requisite eye, strength, and barrel control to profile as a quick-moving thumper. Rutschman is exactly that, and he stands as the face of the ongoing rebuilding efforts in Baltimore. 9 overall in the 2016 draft. OF Cristian Pache, Atlanta Braves (Age: 21). Stuff-wise, he's able to touch into the upper-90s with a plethora of secondary offerings, including a swing-and-miss breaking ball. Because Martin has well-below-average pitch recognition and is helpless against breaking balls. He primarily works with a harder-than-usual two-seam fastball that sits at 94-98 mph and has plenty of run with heavy sink, and a cutter that he added in 2018 that parks in the low 90s. He's as polished as any top pitching prospect in baseball and might already be the best pitcher in the entire Detroit organization, 2019 breakout star Matthew Boyd included. Over the last three seasons, six left-handed starters have averaged 150 innings and more than a strikeout per inning: Chris Sale, Robbie Ray, Patrick Corbin, Eduardo Rodriguez, Clayton Kershaw, and Matthew Boyd. If Harvard-Westlake's name sounds familiar, that's because it's the same school that has produced Jack Flaherty, Lucas Giolito, and Max Fried. Top 10 is: 1. LSU has produced a number of passable big-league outfielders over the past decade, including Mikie Mahtook, Andrew Stevenson, JaCoby Jones, and Jake Fraley. He should go in the first round, and should be able to step into the middle of a rotation before long. SS Carter Kieboom, Washington Nationals (Age: 22). He struck out in more than 24 percent of his career plate appearances (including 30 percent in 2020), and finished with a 2.46 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Sabato, a draft-eligible sophomore, will presumably land somewhere in the 20s at earliest after an impressive college career that saw him hit .332/.459/.698 with 25 home runs in 83 games. Scouts are less bullish on his bat. For as good as Hancock was during the abbreviated season, it was Wilcox who led the Bulldogs in strikeout-to-walk ratio (16). For Banfield, that was Vanderbilt; for Romo, it's LSU. He hit .309/.360/.459 with 40 doubles, nine triples and seven home runs in 573 plate appearances between Double-A and Triple-A last year, and he didn't turn 21 years old until after the season. 2021 MLB Draft. An undersized 6'0" and 150 pounds at the time, Patino signed for just $130,000 as part of the 2016 international free-agent class. An extremely polished slugger, Torkelson hit .337/.463/.729 with 54 home runs in 129 games at Arizona State, walking a staggering 31 times in 17 games this spring. Typically, the top high-school arms have a breaking ball as their best secondary pitch. 4 overall pick in the 2019 draft, Bleday hit .347/.465/.701 with 27 home runs and 72 RBI in 71 games during his junior season at Vanderbilt. Detroit Tigers: Spencer Torkelson, Dillon Dingler, Daniel Cabrera, Trei Cruz, Gage Workman, Colt Keith. You'd think Torkelson was a Joe Hill creation given the fear he invokes in opposing pitchers. Kelley has one other notable concern working against him that isn't his fault: the failures of pop-up prep arms in recent years. The center fielder of the future in San Diego, Trammell was acquired last summer in the three-team, seven-player deal that sent Trevor Bauer to Cincinnati. Cavalli has a fastball he can run into the mid-to-upper-90s as well as a quality slider. Below the surface of those middling numbers, he had a 13.0 percent walk rate and swiped 20 bases in 28 attempts, so the season was not without its positives. The burly 6'6", 245-pound right-hander was virtually unhittable in the minors last season, posting a 2.30 ERA and 0.89 WHIP with 119 strikeouts in 101.2 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .176 batting average. Robert showed he was MLB-ready last year when he hit a ridiculous .328/.376/.624 with 31 doubles, 11 triples, 32 home runs, 92 RBI, 108 runs scored and 36 steals over three minor league levels. An elite defensive outfielder viewed by many as the best all-around defensive player in the minors, Pache took a significant step forward at the plate last year. Don't be surprised when Torkelson ends up going higher than Vaughn, perhaps even first. 46. The White Sox signed him to a six-year, $50 million extension in January, all but handing him the starting center field job in the process, and he looked like the AL Rookie of the Year front-runner before the season was delayed.
